When travelling across Finland you may encounter an urgent need for specific information such as where to stay that night or to how to keep your relatives at home informed about your activities, but you do not have access to a PC. Do not panic! Do you have your mobile phone with you? That's great, because VisitFinland.com provides mobile alternatives to find information, share your activities, and so on via your mobile phone.

If you prefer using mobile internet we recommend you to use our mobile portal http://mobile.visitfinland.com which is tailored for mobile browsers. Or you could use our SMS/MMS based services, which allow reliable service with almost any mobile phone.
Of course you can always browse the full portal at http://www.visitfinland.com with your mobile device, if you have browser capability to display online portals.
VisitFinland.com provides these services for free, but please be aware that your mobile network operator might charge for online traffic or mobile messages.


The mobile portal


The mobile portal http://mobile.visitfinland.com provides access via mobile phone, so that you can access the most important information with smaller photos and less text.

The mobile portal provides the following functions. You may:

  • Search for accommodation, attractions, regions, etc.
  • Rate portal information and see ratings
  • Log in to and access your personal travel plans
  • Obtain weather information
  • Find locations on maps

 


The mobile services


Most of our SMS services can be used without registration, but you need to register in order to send SMS/MMS Blog messages and to rate features.

You have the option of providing your mobile phone number in international format when registering your personal profile. If you do so, you will receive an SMS with a verification code. To verify your number please add the verification code to your profile page. Now you can use the SMS/MMS blogging and rating services.

Generally speaking, it is always a good idea to register your mobile number!

You do not need to go online with your mobile phone to access information and services – some of them can be quickly accessed by means of SMS. You can easily access the following information and services with SMS commands:

  • Sending a FinBlog to OurFinland community
  • Finding the nearest cash machine or other locations
  • Rating some of the portal features such as restaurants
  • Receiving quick weather information or subscribing to weather forecasts
  • Finding your way to a specific address (directing you to the mobile route planner)

MMS services


If you wish to send a longer text as a FinBlog, or if you wish to add photos, you can use MMS. Please note that audio and video content is not currently published on the portal.

Instructions: Compose an MMS on your mobile device and continue to the send menu. Some mobiles may now ask you to "Enter phone number" or "Enter email address" (If prompted select "Enter email address"). Enter the email address for our service "mmsblog@visitfinland.com" and send the message.
