Winter Swimming
The temperature is minus ten degrees Centigrade. The ice is thirty centimeters thick. What a wonderful day for a swim!
For ice-hole swimming you need a frozen lake or sea with a large opening cut into it. It's also a good idea to have a warm dressing room and sauna nearby. Get nice and warm in the sauna, change into your swimming suit, run outside, take a deep breath and plunge into the water. Scream if you feel like it. Return to the warmth of the sauna. Aaaaaahhh!
The freezing cold, bare skin and cold water are an amazing combination which will make you feel fresh for the rest of the day. Sounds crazy, but it's true. Some 120,000 Finns go winter swimming. Some of them even claim it helps build resistance to the common flu.
