A cross-section of the Southern Savo landscapes, cleared by the burn-beating cultivation of the Finns' ancestors and shaped by waterways and woodlands.

The Green Gold Culture Road is a panoply of the beautiful and diverse landscapes of the Southern Savo region, its numerous sights and attractions, and quiet village roads. It displays the green gold of the forests in its various forms, takes the traveller past numerous traditional wood-constructed houses, and showcases the valuable cultural history of the region. Top attractions along the route include St. Olaf's Castle is Savonlinna, The Finnish Forest Museum in Lusto, and the Putikko sawmill community – famous for its extraordinary wooden buildings. Signboards posted next to the sights and attractions provide background information about each site.

Route: From highway 5 in Vihantasalmi onto road 419 to Mäntyharju – road 420 to Ristiina – road 4323 onto road 62 to Puumala – road 62 in the direction of Ruokolahti, and after approximately six kilometres left onto the road via Sepänkylä to Sulkava – road 435 and highway 14 to Savonlinna – highway 14 to Punkaharju and Putikko and onto highway 6 with the possibility of continuing to the Via Karelia.
